Even though our 100th day of Grade Two was almost a month ago, we were still working on "all things 100". Here are a few of our "Pictures with 100 Things". We worked SO hard on these!
We are excited to share our learning with you! Students and I will be posting news about classroom activities and our weekly spelling words. Internet safety is discussed and practiced. Although photos of classroom activities are often shared, students' full faces will not be used. Enjoy our blog together with your child!

Dance With Anne-Michelle
For the past 8 weeks, we have been fortunate enough to have Anne-Michelle come and "take us away" to imaginary lands through her very unique dance program. Our weekly classes are filled with stories, props, dress-up, music, creative movement, exercise and FUN, while building self-confidence and social skills.
Here we listen to music and then work together with others to create shapes...
We can make shapes that reach up high...
And we can make shapes that bend!
There were so many different dances!
And, we always get to make up our own dances as we listen and move to the music!

As this year's sessions came to an end with Anne-Michelle, we talked about what we loved most about dancing. Here are some of our thoughts...
We ALL hope Anne-Michelle comes back next year!

UBC Readig Week
Reading week is traditionally a week where university students across the country have the week off to catch up with school work, prepare for exams or just have a mid-term break. But many students take this opportunity to connect with their community by volunteering for various projects and activities! For the past 3 days our class, along with 9 other classes at Waverley, participated in a variety of multicultural activities led by an enthusiastic group of 40+ young volunteers from UBC! We were so fortunate to have them join us to share some of their stories and cultures with us.
Here are just a few of the activities...

We learned a bit about India and henna painting. Then we made designs on our own "hands". |
We did origami - here is a rat! |
We learned about the Filipino star. |
And we learned some board games which originated from different countries...
This is a version of Chinese checkers. The leaders told us that this game originated in Germany! |
This is a version of "connect four". Our leaders said this is a game that came from America. |
Ludo is a game from India |
This is snakes and ladders. It too came to us from India. |
We also made and played a Korean game called Ddakji and we smelled and tasted tea from around the world!

Happy 100 Day AND Valentines Day!!!
Our 100th day of Grade Two landed on February13th! And, as there was a professional day on Valentines Day this year, we combined these 2 days with a GRAND celebration - a celebration of kindness, and friendship, AND a celebration of 100 days of LEARNING!
Our valentine bags were overflowing with lovely messages and goodies from our friends! It was heartwarming hearing the students go around thanking each other for their cards.
And the FOOD!
We enjoyed sharing the treats everyone brought to share! We started off with some fruits and vegetables! These were devoured so quickly!

We also played some games! This one was "Pass the Hearts". First we used our spoons to transfer the heart from person to person.

So much to choose from! "What will I try??" |
Each heart was worth 10 points. We needed 10 hearts to win!! |
On the 2nd round, we made the game a little more challenging! We had to put the spoon in our mouth and transfer the heart from spoon to spoon!! THAT was NOT easy!! But we did it! WHAT FUN! Thank you everyone for your generosity and for making this day special for all of us! |
Heritage Projects
For the past month we have been working hard learning about our heritage...where are we from? Our parents helped us with our homework! The gave us the first bits of information we needed -our countries of origin; our language; interesting facts about our countries; and some traditional foods!
From there we went to the library, and with the help of Ms. Nijjar, we did some research using books and the computers. We learned about note-taking and citing sources. We learned about taking the information we read and summarizing it in our OWN words.
When we had all the information we needed, we went through the writing process - planning, drafting, revising, editing, and finally publishing!

Last week, we were finally ready to share our work with our classmates. In small groups each of us had the chance to teach our friends a little bit about our heritage! This was such a powerful and proud moment! Well done everyone!
