Orange Shirt Day (September 30th) is a day when we honour the Indigenous children who were sent away to residential schools in Canada and learn more about the history of those schools.
We listened to The Orange Shirt Story by Phyllis Webstad.
You can watch and hear Phyllis talking about her experiences here Phyllis' story
After listening to the story, the children were asked to do a "retell" of it to show their understanding. Then each child was asked to think of a word or phrase to put on their orange shirt telling how EVERY CHILD should be made to feel at school.
Come and see the rest of our stories and shirts in the display case by the office and on the bulletin board outside our classroom.
